Beginning of struggle of Soichiro honda

Learning of Soichiro

Soichiro Honda is born on 17 November 1906 in Japan village Shizuka. His father Gihei Honda works as a blacksmith. He used to bring old or broken bicycles to repair them and sell. Soichiro likes to play with his father’s tools and also with cycle parts.

But their family condition was not so good even though they are not able to afford the fees of Soichiro school fees. Soichiro does not like to go to school in this condition of his family. That’s why he left school at the age of 16.

After leaving school he saw a mechanic job offer in a newspaper in the Art Sokai company and he went to Tokyo to do this job. The owner of the company accepted him to do work but due to his small age, his work was only to clean cars. Also, he was the youngest employee in the company.

Moving forward

But Soichiro was not happy with cleaning cars. He liked to work with inner mechanisms and parts. So, one day Soichiro asked the owner of the company to give the mechanic's work to him. The owner of the company agreed to his request and transferred him to the next branch where racing cars are prepared at night. Soichiro worked hard in this branch and within a few months, he learned all the work of mechanics.

On 23rd November 1924 Shokai company (where Soichiro works) took part in the 5th Japan Car championship and the Shokai company car got 1st place. The interesting part is that Soichiro honda was the mechanic of the winning car.



After this company got good popularity and opened many branches in different places. One of the branches of the Shokai company was under the control of 21-year-old Soichiro.

Sacrifices for starting of the honda company

In 1928 Soichiro left the Shokai company and went home. There he started his own business of mechanic service. After that, he decided to make a piston ring at the minimum possible cost for big automobile companies. For starting his piston ring company he sacrificed all the things he had.
For selling his piston rings Soichiro went to many big companies. Finally, he got the contact of Toyota company to sell piston rings. But after some days, Soichiro honda suffered from a painful accident during a car race. And he was admitted to the hospital for 3 months.


when Soichiro was in the hospital he knew that his piston rings are not successful. and he also lost contact from Toyota. With this, he lost almost all his savings in this company. But he never tried to give up.


After the leave from the hospital, he went to many companies to improve the quality of his piston rings. But in 1944 during 2nd World war(1939-1945) American B29 attacked his factory. And his factory was burned from two angles. This incident is very painful for honda.


Parts of the factory which was left unburnt was sold at 4,50,000 yen(Japanese currency). by the use of this money, Soichiro started the 'Honda Technical Research Institute'.

Creation of Honda bike when Japan defeated

The whole economy of Japan falls at a very high rate. Due to which people can't afford cars. people started moving to bicycles or travel on foot.
Soichiro got an idea by looking at this condition of japan people. The idea was to join a small engine on the bicycle. He worked on the idea and started selling to the people. People like this idea and after that Soichiro honda converted his company's name to 'Honda Motors Company'.

After this, he never looked back. Till 1961 the company produced more than 1 lakh motorcycles every month. And till 1968 the company produced 10 lakh motorcycles every month.

Starting of Honda cars

When some years passed, Japan's economy increased and the company moved its steps to produce four-wheelers. The company got success in this also and got very much popularity.

One of the main reasons for the success of this company is good coordination between its employees. Every worker works with the respect which results in company efficiency and effectiveness.

After achieving many successes Soichiro Honda left the world on 5th august 1991. But still, his company has a good space in people’s hearts.
